VW + BMW Keychain

Description

My new design is a VW and BMW Keychain.  The keychain consists of 2 functioning gears in about a 2:1 ratio, but the coolest part of the design is that there is no glue, screws, or support needed to make it, even with 3 moving parts.   When making this, make sure to follow the directions below, because the order matters!  Check out my website, https://www.mattiatbutera.com for a more in-depth explanation or my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mtb_... for more projects!

Directions and Recommendations:

  • Print with a low layer height (0.2mm and below)
  • The only thing that is different between the models is the Big Gear file
  • Print the Big Gear first (if you want the BMW one, you must print the Checkers as well, and glue them in place)
  • Print the VW Keychain Casing (even if you want the BMW), pausing when the print reaches 7.2mm in order to place the Big Gear in its spot. Resume the print once in place
  • Print the VW Small Gear (even if you want the BMW)
  • Print the VW Keychain Hook (even if you want the BMW), pausing when the print reaches 10.4mm in order to place the Casing (with the Big Gear in it) and Small Gear in its spot.  Resume the print once in place
  • Printing is done!
  • Spend some time breaking in the gears - it makes a big difference!
  • If your printer has trouble with "elephant's foot", you may need to trim the bottom edges since tolerances between the gears are tight
