Description
This is a distance gauge that I designed using TurboCAD v16. I originally machined this tool out of aluminum (with some changes to the design), but thought it might make a nice 3D-printing project. I've included an 'All Parts and Fasteners' version of the file here, instead of posting multiple part files... so you might be able to scale the model up/down to fit your needs and/or your printer. I'm printing this file on my DaVinci 1.0 Pro right now with 5% infill and no raft at 100% scale... which is X7.03", Y6.0", Z2.5". (It's an estimated 12+ hour print, according to the software and the machine.) I'm not sure that the fasteners will work with this print, since I did not add any tolerances between the fasteners and the threaded holes. (I simply did a boolean subtract for the fasteners... which will probably not work correctly for 3D printing.) I designed this tool to help measure model a couple of model airplanes that I want to make 3D models of. (But I now have a 3D scanner on the way, so this tool will not be used for that reason.) The measurement increments should be accurate, if printed at 100% scale. If anyone needs individual part files in order to print on a smaller build surface, please let me know. (I cannot guarantee that your part scaling will be accurate, of course. However, individual files would allow you to tweak the scaling until fasteners actually fit correctly... unlike this all-inclusive file.) The measurement graduations are for reference only, of course. I'm a machinist, so I designed this tool to be used in conjunction with accurate dial calipers to measure from the base to the tip of the pointer(s). I will post photos of the actual print, when it is finished. Until then, download and tweak to your liking.
