Transparent Mouth Shield

Description

I do not suggest or guarantee any level of protection with this device!! I originally designed this shield in April 2020 based on a proposal from a colleague, who needed a transparent mouth and nose protection for actors on set. I am now offering the designs for free. You are making and using this at your own responsibility. I have no idea whether this is a sufficient substitute for a facemask!

The shield consists of a 3D printed frame (similar to glasses) which prints flat against the bed (see the image from the slic3r) and a transparent foil (0.05-0,1mm works fine) which is cut to shape (manually or on a vinyl cutter/laser cutter**).

**Beaware of what materials are risk free for your laser cutter. PVC based foils are usually not recommended!

There are two main options, the difference being in how the foil is attached to the frame:

  • For designs with groove (...w_groove.stl) the foil is supposed to be superglued into the groove.
  • For designs with knobs (...w_knobs.stl) the foil is equipped with a couple ~4mm holes (drill/punch/laser) on each to hold on the printed knobs. Should be apparent from the images and pdf drawings.

I did not find a way how to upload DXF files of the foil outlines, unfortunately. You can refer to Thingiverse to download these.

I DO NOT endorse any profitable sale of these designs or products based on those. However, I am fine with the idea of anyone providing the shields for a moderate price (should there be a demand) to cover the manufacturing costs and time expense.

PRINT SETTINGS: PET-G/PLA/ABS, 0.1/0.2mm layer height. May need to lower the speed to print the end of the legs alright.
