Would you mind giving me some hints over your paint job? What kind of paint do you use? Any prep work? Any smoothers?

I printed it with white PLA, and I just used Acrylic paint from the hobby/craft store. Since it was supposed to look wood grain, I didn't try smoothing it at all. I may have roughed it up a little with sandpaper or steel wool. I hardly remember. It's been 2 years and still looks the same as when I installed it, and it gets used multiple times daily. Now that I look at it, I'm really surprised the paint still looks as good, but it does. I used a couple different shades of brown to give it a wood look. and then silver for the "metal" parts. Thought it needed a little more so I put some black on it, and then rubbed it back off except for where it was in the cracks. That's what really made it "pop" and look real.
