Homework can be annoying and take up too much time that you'd like to spend doing something more fun. When you have a lot of homework to do, it can be difficult to work efficiently. Focus, organization, planning, and motivation can help you get through your homework quickly and switch to more interesting activities. Work in a comfortable, well-lit room. Sit at your desk in a comfortable, cushioned chair. Do not work on the floor or bed, as these places can cause drowsiness and make you distracted. Be sure to study in a room with good lighting, so you don't have to strain your eyes while reading. Get rid of distractions, get some privacy and put away electronic devices. Turn off your phone, computer (unless you need it for work, of course), TV, and close the door. Tell your family and friends not to be disturbed when you're doing your homework. Download apps that block websites so that you're not distracted while you're working on your computer. Set a timer. At the beginning of each assignment or topic, start a timer for as many minutes as you need to complete the work. Periodically look at the timer to monitor the passage of time. This will help you realize that you're spending too much time on one task (if that happens), and also help you focus again when you're distracted. If any one task or topic is taking much longer than others, it may be worth asking a parent or teacher for help. Get your school supplies in order. To avoid wasting time looking for the things you need, keep your books, papers, writing sets, and other materials in an accessible place. To stay organized, put your binders and backpack in order every week or every month. Consider consolidating many different folders into one and separate them with tabs. That way, all of your schoolwork will be in one place.
