Description

Darth Vader bust sliced into 7 parts with netfabb, easy to print, no support needed. Printed @260% of its original size on UM² with eSun ABS (turquoise and orange) and a 0.6mm nozzle. (Olsson Block FTW !!1!oneone) Sorry, didn't have a banana for scale :(

Not yet a 3d printer, but have a question. Could a helmet design like this be printed without the base, and hollow? Was looking to use them for light shades on a ceiling fan. Would it be too hot for the plastic?

Hi Marc, you can use it as a lampshade on LED lamps or low energy lamps only. Classic lamps would be too hot (PLA deforms from about 70°C)

Hi, I am about to buy a 3D printer but I am a little scared about the print quality, I've noticed that the first darth vader is all shiny and beautiful aspect but the blue example is not quite good appearance, what could cause this poor quality? Is it the filament material or could be the printer configuration?

Hey Lucas, Thank you for your interest ! This print did not came out like this, you have to know there is a bit of post treatment : first I had to glue together the parts then fill the cracks and sand everything to get a less rough surface. Then I applied primer, two coats of black paint then varnish. This is how it looks all shiny. You can get something clean out of the printer, depending on what filament you use. Ecomaylene filaments are suitable for this kind of render, with thin layers (0.2mm max). The poor quality of a print can be caused by a lot of parameters : low quality filament, wrong print settings, crappy printer, ... etc. You can PM me if you'd like to get more advices on which printer and materials to chose. Bonjour Isabelle, c'est en effet une solution viable pour rendre brillants les objets imprimés. Cependant, imprimer en ABS est un peu plus contraignant qu'en PLA. Polymaker propose sa solution : des filaments à base de PLA et qui sont également lissables (PLA Polysmooth), notamment grâce au Polysher qui crée un nuage d'alcool isopropylique (IPA). Ce dernier agit sur le Polysmooth de la même façon que l'acétone sur l'ABS.
