Magnetic, Interchangeable Spinner

Yes, the world is burned out on Spinners, they had their day - and it's gone. That said, this one is truly a clever concept. Wish I could say it was my idea, but it was my daughters (age 13), I just made the pieces work.

What's different about this one:

  • The addictive SNAP of the magnets as the two halves click together
  • The mini spinner embedded inside can be a standalone finger spinner
  • The cool pushbutton action when you press on the bearing if the spinner is laying flat. Useless feature, but fun to press the button
  • It has three unique components, you need all three to make one spinner.  The two halves are mirror opposites.
  • Prints are simple and fast
  • Try the Wobble spinner here:  https://pinshape.com/items/105...

This is a fun 3D printing project because its something usable, tradeable, highly interchangeable, and fits into a pocket or  backpack.  It's not just a figurine, it has functionality.

Printing Tips for PLA:

  • No supports
  • 20-30% infill for upper and lower halves
  • 40-50% infill for mini spinner inside (the rolling bearing presses into it, it needs to be a bit stronger)
  • 0.15mm layer height on everything
  • I recommend using glue on the heatbed, very thin, uniform layer

Other components you'll need:

  • Eight .125" diameter by 0.125" long magnets  (my favorite place for ordering magnets is www.KJMagnetics.com)
  • Four, 1/2" diameter ball bearings (these don't need to be precision)
  • One, rolling bearing (608ZZ trade size) This is a just a common skateboard bearing.  Measure the outer diameter and make sure it's .866",  x .276" thick  (Just take one out of your other old spinners, it may be an exact fit)

Cheers, Mark
