UPS Has 3D Printers (And Why You Should Care)!

One of the biggest obstacles to 3D printing right now is access. Sure, you can find amazing 3D printable designs on Pinshape, but when it comes down to it, most of us just don’t have the finances to buy a 3D printer or the time to fully utilize it with that much investment up-front.  Being limited to simply ordering a print and receiving the final printed object leaves out part of the fun of 3D printing – being able to go and actually watch the thing that we order be 3D printed. For those of us who want a chance to experience that, UPS has come to the rescue by adding 3D printers to 100 of its locations across the U.S.

What is the Expansion?

UPS has sent the Stratasys uPrint SE Plus, a professional grade 3D printer, to 100 UPS locations around the U.S. This means that small businesses and consumers across the U.S. can 3D print designs affordably, at a higher quality than an at home printer, without buying their own printer.

A Whole New Side of 3D Printing

The ability to print things at a local UPS location opens up a whole new side of the Pinshape platform to you users out there who have only used the “Buy” option. Now all users can use the “Download” option to purchase a design that you can print as many times as you want. Once you buy these designs you can go on over to your 3D printer equipped UPS, and print them at that location in somewhere between 4 to 24 hours.

This UPS expansion of 3D printing is just one of the great steps being made to make 3D printing even more accessible to the general community. Even though not everyone can own their own 3D printer (yet), now everyone can at least have access use someone else’s high quality machines.
